PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake colby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyndon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyndon Jones told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake colby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lyndon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to clinch but colby moves out of range.
colby finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
colby throws a head kick that misses.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but colby paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones lands a high kick!


It looks like Jake colby has been cut.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

colby forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
colby drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jones is looking to clinch.
A head kick misses from colby.
Jones clinches but colby breaks the clinch

and colby moves into the clinch.
colby is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
colby wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake colby. That's going to take a lot out of him.

colby works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
colby tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

colby got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, colby has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

colby drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and colby jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

colby decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!
colby is breathing heavily.
Jones closes the distance but colby moves to the side

so colby counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

colby wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.

colby is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well.
Jones wants to control but colby is keeping busy.

Jones wants to improve his position but colby is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on colby if he has to take too many more of those.

and Jones makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. colby really felt that one!
Jones lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for colby on that attempt.
colby could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jones tries to clinch there but colby circles away.
Jones smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

colby takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jones throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
colby circles away from the clinch attempt.

colby drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but colby puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

colby looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jones wants to control but colby is keeping busy.

colby is trying to control. Jones wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
colby wants to pass to mount but Jones is defending the position.
Jones is not content to let colby control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
colby takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones lands with a slapping head kick.
Jones cracks the inside of colby's front leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones tries to clinch there but colby circles away.
Jones plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
colby tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A right-left combo lands from Jones.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jones lands a head kick!
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones blocks a head kick by colby.
Some bone on bone action there as colby checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

colby tries to move into range but Jones moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
colby blocks a low kick nicely.

colby closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

colby stands up.
Jones dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lyndon Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
colby circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones throws a nice outside leg kick.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
colby on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Jones cracks the inside of colby's front leg.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but colby swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones lands with a slapping head kick.

colby drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
colby keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jones's efforts to push away.

colby manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Jake colby overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but colby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

colby had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.
colby controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

colby looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones scoring with some ground and pound.

colby throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jones wants to control from the top but colby keeps moving.

colby looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Jones connects with a couple of short punches.
colby wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

colby escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Jones won't allow colby to sweep him here.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but colby has wrist control.
colby tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lyndon Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jake colby is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick from Jones lands but colby takes it in his stride.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake colby showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for colby, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
