Smith comes into the arena with Give it Away blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Jack Joe enters the ring!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Austin Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Joe!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Joe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Joe has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Joe, who protects the arm well.
Joe is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Joe can do anything to dispel that myth.
Joe seems a little lost for a moment, as Smith dominates the positioning.

Smith prevents Joe from escaping the position.

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Joe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Smith landing a few strikes.
Smith connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Joe some visible discomfort.
Joe is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Joe is defending well.
Joe is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Smith asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Joe, who protects the arm well.

Joe bucks up and tries to throw Smith off but instead Smith has got his back!

Smith punches the canvas rather than the man.
Smith is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Smith gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Smith gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Smith apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Joe doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
An inside leg kick from Joe misses.
Joe tries a head kick but it misses.
Joe throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.

Smith scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Smith wants to take a breather but Joe is having none of it.

Smith in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Joe tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Smith!
