PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Noryuki Takahashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ellis Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Noryuki Takahashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ellis Stone!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stone doesn't manage to clinch there - Takahashi circles away.
A combination from Stone does no damage.
Stone moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Stone takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ellis Stone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stone takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Stone fails with an attempt to clinch.
Stone lands the left hand.
Takahashi works over Stone's head and body with a nice combination.
Stone tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Stone closes this distance looking for a takedown but Takahashi circles away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Stone closes the distance and clinches.

Stone gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stone in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Stone has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Takahashi is trying to get back to full guard.

Takahashi is trying to control but Stone manages to pass to mount!
Takahashi tries to hold on but Stone postures up.
Stone lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Stone misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Stone controlling the pace for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A nice elbow there by Stone.
Takahashi tries to hold on but Stone postures up.
Stone lands a big elbow.
Stone has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stone scoring with strikes but Takahashi is staying in there.
Stone takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Stone is landing with some decent strikes but Takahashi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Stone breaks from Takahashi's wrist control and lands an elbow.
BOOM! Stone connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The referee warns Takahashi that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Takahashi takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Stone sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Takahashi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stone throws a push kick but Takahashi slaps the foot to one side.
Noryuki Takahashi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stone is looking to clinch but Takahashi is avoiding it.
No joy there for Takahashi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Stone shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The fight stays on the outside here - Takahashi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Takahashi throws a series of punches but Stone avoids them all with ease.

and Stone counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Still in half guard, Stone seems content to control.
Stone is trying to control the action in half guard but Takahashi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Takahashi tries to roll over but Stone keeps him under control.

Stone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takahashi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stone trying to control but Takahashi is working from the bottom.
Takahashi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ellis Stone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Takahashi seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Stone is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.

Stone's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Stone decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Takahashi's guard.

Stone looking to sit in guard and control but Takahashi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ellis Stone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Stone winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
