PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Savinay Pillavino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vedad Zilic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pillavino comes into the arena with Tere Bina blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Savinay Pillavino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vedad Zilic!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zilic looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pillavino is fending him off so far but Zilic persists. Nope, Pillavino circles away and we're back to standing.
Zilic changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pillavino tries to avoid it but Zilic manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pillavino to the ground. Pillavino escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pillavino looks to throw the jab but Zilic is out of range.
Zilic ducks under a wild hook from Pillavino.
Pillavino cracks Zilic with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

It looks like Vedad Zilic has been cut.

A slow jab from Pillavino misses its intended target.

Pillavino drops Zilic with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Zilic looks back up at him and smiles so Pillavino waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pillavino fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Zilic counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pillavino!

Zilic goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Pillavino turns into him and now he's in Zilic's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pillavino accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pillavino drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Zilic manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pillavino has Zilic in his guard.
Pillavino is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pillavino's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Zilic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pillavino swivels though and keeps the full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pillavino pulls Zilic in close to prevent any damage.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Savinay Pillavino just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Pillavino works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Pillavino wants to clinch up but Zilic keeps it at a distance.
Pillavino tries to bum rush Zilic with a series of wild strikes but Zilic uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Zilic uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pillavino.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pillavino keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Zilic shoots in but no luck this time.
Pillavino throws out a loose jab but Zilic uses good head movement to avoid it.
Zilic stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zilic wants it to stay on the feet.

Pillavino steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Zilic is out on his feet! Pillavino sets himself and nearly takes Zilic's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
