PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Morse Hores (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Augusto Pires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pires has chosen Tier - Rammstein as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Morse Hores!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Augusto Pires!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hores misses with a head kick.
A right-left combo lands from Hores.
Pires throws a shot from downtown. Hores moves away and avoids it.
Hores throws a combination. Pires tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Hores throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Hores closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hores lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hores stops Pires from standing up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pires can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hores wanted to stand there but Pires had control of the position.
Hores trying to control the position from guard on top but Pires is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pires wants to get back to his feet but Hores is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hores wants to control from the top but Pires keeps moving.
Hores postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Pires. No joy for Hores on that attempt.
Hores with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Augusto Pires is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pires thows a left - swing and a miss!
Pires throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hores throws a combination. Pires tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Hores closes the distance and pushes Pires back into the cage.
Pires tries to break the clinch but Hores is controlling the position.
Hores tries to pull guard but Pires holds him up against the cage and eventually Hores drops back down to his feet.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Hores working aggressively here.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Hores looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Hores lands a hook that snaps the head of Pires backwards.
Hores drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pires gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Morse Hores. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hores slows down the pace here.

Hores pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pires throws a right hand that Hores ducks under and follows up with a left that Hores also avoids with ease.
Hores lands a head kick. Pires smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Pires throws a combination that misses

and Hores counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Hores lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Hores is struggling to control the position.
Hores can't get the takedown.
Hores tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Pires's elbow.
Hores goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pires prevents it.
Pires takes an elbow to the temple.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hores's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hores swings wildly with an uppercut but Pires uses good head movement to avoid it.

Hores breaks from the clinch.
Pires jabs at Hores's body.
Pires misses with a hook. Hores ducked under it nicely.
A left and a right from Pires both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Morse Hores has been cut.
Pires takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Pires fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hores manages to avoid it.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Hores - that will leave a mark!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hores shoots in for a double leg but Pires sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hores is breathing heavily.
Hores ducks right into an uppercut from Pires.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hores ducks under a wild hook from Pires.
Hores misses with a few strikes there.
Pires looks to score with a jab to the body but Hores is just out of range.
Hores connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Morse Hores will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Morse Hores's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pires throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Pires throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Hores throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Nice defenses there by Hores.
Pires misses with a looping right.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Pires crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hores - the referee stops the clock and Pires gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hores. Pires manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Pires scores with a one two! Hores had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pires looks to land a left hand but Hores moved out of range nicely.
Hores will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pires looks to score with a jab to the body but Hores is just out of range.
A combination from Pires does no damage.
Pires misses the jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pires. Hores does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pires takes a kick to the side of the head.
Hores takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Hores looks to land a combination but Pires avoids it well.
Hores closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Pires lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pires.


Morse Hores's cut is getting worse.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hores lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Pires is breathing heavily.
Hores steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pires.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Hores.
Pires takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Hores moves out of range of the strikes.
Hores throws a right and a left that Pires avoids nicely.
Pires throws a hook but Hores blocks it.
Pires falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hores counters with a two punch combo.
Hores moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hores.

Hores shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hores showed some decent athleticism there.
Hores trying to control the action but Pires is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hores working over Pires with some ground and pound. Pires looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hores throwing shots but Pires is blocking nicely.
Hores has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hores is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Pires is trying to stand.
Hores scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Pires tries to kick Hores off but Hores keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hores with the ground and pound but Pires uses the opportunity to regain guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hores accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hores trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hores throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pires works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Pires is wriggling around but Hores manages to pass to half guard.
Hores slips a nice elbow through Pires's hands, connecting with Pires's forehead.
Pires is looking to escape.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hores prevents Pires from standing back up.
Hores sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Hores throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pires tries to kick Hores off but Hores keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hores sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pires defending well though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hores lands with a nice body kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hores.
Pires takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Hores throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pires.
Pires has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Hores.
Pires takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Morse Hores is winning the standup battle so far.
Hores misses with a series of wild punches.
Hores lands a head kick!
Pires swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Hores counters with a shoot takedown. Pires fights it but they end up in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pires keeping moving, preventing Hores from controlling successfully.
Pires is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hores is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morse Hores dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Morse Hores's cut.
That's time! Hores's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Left hook, right uppercut from Hores.
Hores buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Hores shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Hores is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pires can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hores won't let Pires get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Hores lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pires hang on?
Pires's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hores is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pires can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
A nice elbow there by Hores.

Pires wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hores.
Pires holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hores tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Pires is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Hores is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hores lands a heavy elbow.
Hores breaks from Pires's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Pires wants to get back to his feet.
Hores has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pires's face.
Hores connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hores won't let Pires get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Pires really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hores. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hores lands with some strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pires wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Hores tries to control but Pires wriggling away.
Hores landing strikes from the mount and Pires is in trouble!
Hores looking to control but Pires is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hores thowing shots but they're missing.
Pires is trying to stand up.

Hores can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pires is looking to escape.
Pires trying desperately to get to his feet.
Hores with the ground and pound from mount.
Hores lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Pires blocking the ground and pound.
Hores trying to control but Pires is having none of it.
Hores thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pires is bucking up trying to escape but Hores cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pires is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
A nice elbow there by Hores.
Morse Hores is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hores controlling his opponent.
Augusto Pires has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pires throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Morse Hores showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hores has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
