PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Dredd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Smit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dredd comes to the cage accompanied by demolition. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dredd misses with a few strikes there.
Dredd misses with a two punch combination.
Dredd swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smit lands a nice hook to Dredd's body. Dredd takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Paul Smit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dredd moves out of range of the body kick.
Dredd avoids the head kick by Smit.

Dredd looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Smit!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smit wants to control but Dredd is having none of it.
Dredd has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Smit's face.
Smit bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Dredd shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dredd knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smit on the ground.

Nice takedown defense from Smit. No joy for Dredd on that attempt.

Smit clinches.
Smit throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dredd blocks it with crossed arms.

Smit tries to land knees in the clinch but Dredd avoids the damage to the body.
Smit keeps control of Dredd as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Smit wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dredd has him pressed against the cage.

Dredd has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Smit regains guard immediately.

Smit had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dredd is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Smit Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dredd's back instead.
Smit has Dredd flattened out and is raining down punches.
Dredd manages to reverse the position and now he's in Smit's guard. Nice work there by Dredd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Smit tries for a takedown but Dredd circles away easily

and Dredd decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smit's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dredd postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Smit is rocked!
Smit wants to stand and escape but Dredd is having none of it.
Smit is still in real trouble! Can Dredd finish him?
Dredd chips away with some ground and pound.
Dredd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smit swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smit keeping moving, preventing Dredd from controlling successfully.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dredd's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Smit seems to have recovered his senses.

Dredd decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smit, up you get!
Dredd scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Dredd misses with a jab, cross combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dredd circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smit lands with a kick to the temple. Dredd shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Smit lands a nice leg kick that just misses Dredd's sensitive parts.
Smit uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Paul Smit will probably get the nod.

Dredd shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dredd was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Whack! Smit lands a heavy head kick that drops Dredd. The ref tackles Smit to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Dredd was done.
