PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Brannigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chay Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Willis has chosen As I Lay Dying - Through Struggle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Alex Brannigan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Chay Willis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Willis thows a body shot but no joy.
Willis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Brannigan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Brannigan defending well as Willis loads up on a big left hand.
Brannigan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Willis looks to score with a jab to the body but Brannigan is just out of range.
Brannigan takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Brannigan misses with an attempted mid kick.
Brannigan takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Willis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Brannigan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Willis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Brannigan avoids the body shot from Willis.
Brannigan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Brannigan is looking to clinch.
Alex Brannigan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Willis.
Willis misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Brannigan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Willis off and has taken his back!
Brannigan is trying to stick to Willis's back but Willis is turning into Brannigan. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Brannigan's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Willis.

Brannigan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Willis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brannigan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Willis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Willis stands up over Brannigan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Willis passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Brannigan wants to control but Willis postures up.

Willis creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Brannigan looking for a sweep but Willis has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Willis lands a nice shot to the head.

Brannigan gets back to half guard.
Willis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Willis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Brannigan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Willis on the ground.

Willis has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Brannigan's face.
Brannigan wants to hold on but Willis pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Brannigan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brannigan tries to get out of the position.
Willis lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Brannigan hang on?

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chay Willis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Willis misses with an uppercut.
Willis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Brannigan circles away quickly and effectively.
Brannigan misses with a body kick.
Brannigan tries to clinch up but Willis circles away and keeps his distance.
Willis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brannigan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Brannigan finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Willis swings for the body but Brannigan moves out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Brannigan.
Chay Willis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brannigan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Brannigan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Willis working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Willis cracks Brannigan with a big elbow.
Brannigan takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Willis misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Brannigan managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Willis.

Willis wants to take a breather but Brannigan is having none of it.
Brannigan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Willis jumps into side control!

Chay Willis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Brannigan moves forwards but Willis connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A combination from Willis does no damage.

Willis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Willis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Brannigan wants to hold on but Willis pushes him away.
BOOM! Willis connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Brannigan tries to reverse the position but Willis maintains control.
Willis is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Willis is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Brannigan has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Brannigan is looking to improve his position but Willis isn't that keen on the idea.

Brannigan is rocked!
Willis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Oh Brannigan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brannigan wants to control but Willis is having none of it.
Brannigan seems to have got his legs back now.
Brannigan is squirming around, avoiding Willis's attempts to control the action.
Willis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brannigan is wriggling around trying to escape.

Brannigan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Willis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee warns Brannigan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Willis breaks from Brannigan's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Brannigan wants to hold on but Willis pushes him away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Willis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Willis postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Brannigan is out cold - huge knockout for Willis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Chay Willis!
