PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell comes into the arena with Just Another Victim by Helmet & House of Pain blaring out of the sound system. Rush is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tom Sawyer - Rush. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kurt Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rush looks to land a combination but Liddell avoids it well.
Rush fails with an attempt to clinch.
Liddell dives in and grabs Rush's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rush pushes down on Liddell's head and hops out.
Jesper Rush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rush fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Liddell.
Liddell avoids the head kick by Rush.
Rush cracks Liddell with a good jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rush looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Liddell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rush sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Rush bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Rush digs a good hook to Liddell's body.
Rush throws a front kick that sends Liddell stumbling back into the cage.

Liddell is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Rush tries to pass the half guard into mount. Liddell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Rush keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Liddell's head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Rush is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Liddell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddell tries to get out of the position.
Rush pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Liddell is keeping the position for now.

Liddell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Liddell is just content to waste time from the top position. Rush takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Liddell postures up in Rush's guard and throws a big left but Rush blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rush feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Liddell's calf.
Liddell avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Liddell tries for a takedown but Rush circles away easily
and Rush counters with a head kick. That will keep Liddell thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Liddell. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Liddell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Liddell wants to get back to his feet but Rush is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Rush shoots in looking for a takedown. Liddell tries to sprawl out of it but Rush keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Liddell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Jesper Rush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rush has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
