The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shephard looks to score with a jab to the body but Tickin is just out of range.
Shephard dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Shephard has closed the distance and engaged Tickin in a clinch.
Tickin wants a takedown but no success here.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Tickin.

Shephard successfully pulls guard.

Shephard looking for a guillotine here but Tickin defends easily.

Shephard is looking for a triangle but Tickin pushes his legs off easily.
Shephard is trying to control the position but Tickin postures up.

Tickin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shephard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tickin has managed to get both his arms back between Shephard's legs - danger averted.

Tickin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shephard looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shephard looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shephard!

Shephard has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Tickin looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Shephard circles away from the clinch attempt

and Shephard counters with a takedown into side control.

Shephard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shephard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Shephard is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tickin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Shephard is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tickin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Shephard is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Tickin has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shephard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tickin keeps working.

Shephard has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shephard goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Tickin turns into him and now he's in Shephard's guard.

Shephard is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Tickin rolls with it to try and escape but Shephard cranks on the arm and Tickin is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
