The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malik tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Malik wants to clinch.
Lee shoots in for a double leg but Malik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A head kick misses from Malik.

Lee has closed the distance and engaged Malik in a clinch.
Malik is trying to break the clinch but Lee has him pressed against the cage.

Malik's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Malik counters with a nice body kick.

Malik throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Lee holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lee throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Malik bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Malik escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Malik throws the kick towards the body but Lee avoids it.
Lee closes the distance but Malik moves to the side
and Malik makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Lee really felt that one!

and Lee counters with a single leg into guard. Malik didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Malik knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lee on the ground.

Malik has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Lee off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Malik circles away.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick and Malik moves out of range easily.
Waleed Malik is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Malik keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up but Malik swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Lee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Lee throws a push kick but Malik slaps the foot to one side.

Lee shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lee was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Malik is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Lee throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lee is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Malik to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Malik shrugs it off.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Waleed Malik will probably get the nod.

Lee manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Malik wants to stand but Lee has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Lee is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Malik frees his head nicely. Oh but Lee has switched to an armbar! Malik is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
