PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ribeiro Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allen has chosen Mann gegen Mann by Rammstein as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ribeiro Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Allen!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up but Allen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gracie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Allen rushes Gracie and presses him up against the cage.
Allen avoiding damage.
Gracie tries to pull guard but Allen won't allow it.

Allen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Allen scores with a takedown into Gracie's guard.
Gracie wants to stand and escape but Allen is having none of it.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Allen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Allen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Allen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Allen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Allen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Allen trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Allen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Allen tries to stand but Gracie is controlling from the bottom.

Allen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Allen has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
Gracie looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Gracie keeping moving, preventing Allen from controlling successfully.
Allen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gracie is keeping the position for now.

Allen wants to stand but Gracie has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Allen with a hook.
Gracie tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Allen counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
A short uppercut from Allen.
Allen holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Allen pushes Gracie back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Gracie tries for a takedown. No joy.
Allen slowing the pace effectively.
Gracie is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Allen gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ribeiro Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Allen has Gracie pushed against the cage.

Allen gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Allen controlling the action here.

Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Allen is trying to control. Gracie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Allen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jesse Allen will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Gracie shoots in and bounces Allen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Allen keeping full guard, as Gracie tries to pass.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Allen manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Gracie can't escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Allen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Allen's attempts to control the action.
Gracie sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Allen passes to side control.
Allen trying to control the action but Gracie is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie is trying to get back to half guard.
Allen wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jesse Allen just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Allen moves into the clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Allen.
Allen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gracie pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gracie but Gracie pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Allen counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Allen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Allen is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Allen wants to stand but Gracie has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Allen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Allen looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Allen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ribeiro Gracie will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Allen clinches up against the cage.

Allen breaks the clinch.

Allen clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
Allen stalling against the cage.
Gracie has Allen pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Allen manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Allen has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gracie clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Allen wants to control but Gracie manages to buck him off and is now in Allen's guard! Nice work there by Gracie!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Allen is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Allen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Allen wants to sweep here but Gracie controlling him for the moment.
Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Allen is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Allen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Allen manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Allen's guard.
Allen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Allen circles away easily
and Allen counters with a straight right hand.
Gracie stuffs the takedown attempt from Allen. Allen gets slowly back to his feet.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
BOOM! Gracie connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Allen reaches up to try and pull Gracie in and control his posture, but Gracie latches on to an arm and pivots quickly for an armbar! Allen taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ribeiro Gracie!
