PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Drysdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drysdale kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Jadakiss - The Champ Is Here. Franklin comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Landslide by Fleetwood Mac kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Drysdale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Franklin!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Franklin does no damage.

Drysdale shoots in and bounces Franklin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Drysdale wants to control from the top but Franklin keeps moving.
Franklin wants to get back to his feet but Drysdale is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Drysdale tries to free his leg and advance position but Franklin is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drysdale stands and throws Franklin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Franklin tries to bench press Drysdale off him but Drysdale keeps the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drysdale tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Franklin can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Drysdale circles away from the clinch attempt.
Franklin stuffs the takedown attempt from Drysdale. Drysdale gets slowly back to his feet.
Franklin throws a right hand that Drysdale ducks under and follows up with a left that Drysdale also avoids with ease.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drysdale bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Franklin throws a looping overhand right but Drysdale ducks down to avoid it.
Franklin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Drysdale counters with a takedown into side control.
Franklin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drysdale. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Drysdale looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Drysdale is trying to get an arm triangle but Franklin is defending well.
Franklin sneaks back into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Franklin looks like he's trying to stand up.
Franklin is trying to control but Drysdale manages to pass to mount!
Drysdale tries to control but Franklin wriggling away.
Drysdale will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Drysdale is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Franklin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Drysdale wants to finish this one by submission but Franklin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Drysdale.

Drysdale is working for a guillotine from mount but Franklin frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Drysdale's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Drysdale closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Franklin did well to prevent Drysdale getting side control.
Franklin is trying to stand up here but Drysdale is controlling him well.

Drysdale is looking to take a break and control but Franklin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Franklin is pressing down on Drysdale's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Drysdale passes Franklin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Franklin is trying to stand up here but Drysdale is controlling him well.

Franklin pulls Drysdale in close to prevent any damage.

Franklin has his feet on Drysdale's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Drysdale slips a jab from Franklin.

Drysdale decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Franklin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Drysdale sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Franklin's guard.

Drysdale is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Franklin is just riding it out for now. Drysdale eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Drysdale is thwarting Franklin's attempts to control the position.
Franklin is trying to stand up here but Drysdale is controlling him well.
Franklin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Drysdale's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Drysdale's back!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Franklin trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Franklin biding his time, looking for the opening.
Will Franklin go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Franklin has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Drysdale's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Robert Drysdale will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Drysdale gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Franklin to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ben Franklin just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fighters circling - Franklin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nice takedown defense from Franklin. No joy for Drysdale on that attempt.

Franklin throws a series of punches but Drysdale moves out of range.
Ben Franklin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Franklin uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Franklin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Drysdale counters with a single leg into guard. Franklin didn't expect that.
Franklin is looking to stand up but Drysdale isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drysdale pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Franklin is keeping the position for now.
Drysdale wants to control from the top but Franklin keeps moving.
Franklin pulls Drysdale in close to his closed guard and prevents Drysdale from doing any damage or advancing position.

Franklin tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Franklin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Drysdale circles away quickly and effectively.
Franklin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Drysdale moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ben Franklin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Franklin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Franklin shoots and misses

and Drysdale counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Franklin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Drysdale trying to control but Franklin is working from the bottom.

Franklin working for a triangle but Drysdale defends it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Robert Drysdale.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Drysdale, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
