PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jupiter James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Martinez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jupiter James!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martinez is trying to control but can't.

James decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Martinez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

James jumps into guard, dragging Martinez to the mat.

Martinez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

James is trying to maintain a safe position but Martinez gets an underhook and turns James into the cage.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

James clinches up with Martinez and pushes him back against the cage.

James has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Martinez uses from the top position.

James has Martinez pulled in close to control his posture.
Martinez wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Martinez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as James works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Martinez stands up and waves to James to follow him.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Martinez.
James is looking to regain half guard here but Martinez keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Martinez is staying tight to James's torso, preventing him from escaping.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Martinez misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

James is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Martinez is surviving well by controlling James's body position as best he can.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
James tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lucas Martinez will probably get the nod.

Martinez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming James to the mat! James manages to get full guard.

James jumps guard but Martinez stands there with James around his waist. James gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Martinez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but James manages to avoid it.

Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
