PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cabeza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magnus Svenstroem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cabeza comes to the cage accompanied by Chemical brothers - Where Do I Start. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Cabeza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Magnus Svenstroem!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cabeza gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Svenstroem to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Svenstroem drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cabeza manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Svenstroem has Cabeza in his guard.
Cabeza trying to control but Svenstroem is working from the bottom.
Cabeza is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Svenstroem is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cabeza trying to control the position from guard on top but Svenstroem is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Svenstroem is trying to control the position but Cabeza postures up.

Cabeza stands up and waves to Svenstroem to follow him.

Cabeza shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Svenstroem is trying to control the position but Cabeza postures up.

Cabeza drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Svenstroem dives on top into guard.
Cabeza striking off his back but it's not causing Svenstroem any problems.

Svenstroem stops Cabeza from standing up.

Svenstroem drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Svenstroem jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cabeza has momentary wrist control but Svenstroem slips an elbow through the middle.

Cabeza uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Cabeza wants to clinch.
Svenstroem needs to keep his hands up - Cabeza had a free shot at his head there.
Cabeza tries to clinch but Svenstroem is having none of it.

Svenstroem looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Svenstroem is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cabeza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Svenstroem on the ground.
Cabeza flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Svenstroem is looking for a kimura here.
Cabeza misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Cabeza tries to get to full guard but Svenstroem has control of the leg.

Svenstroem is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cabeza defends it well.
Cabeza throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Svenstroem blocks the strikes from Cabeza.
Cabeza manages to get to full guard.
Cabeza is trying to control the position but Svenstroem postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cabeza working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Svenstroem.
Svenstroem stands and throws Cabeza's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cabeza is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Svenstroem trying to control the action but Cabeza is working from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Cabeza's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cabeza is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cabeza trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Svenstroem dodges the punch combination from Cabeza.
Cabeza shoots and misses

and Svenstroem counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cabeza!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Svenstroem has isolated one of Cabeza's arms. Cabeza looking to fight him off but Svenstroem twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Magnus Svenstroem!
