PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dee Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Ellington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pain's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, AC/DC - If you want Blood (You've got it). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dee Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Duke Ellington!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ellington lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pain circles away quickly and effectively.
Ellington throws a jab but it's blocked by Pain.
Ellington checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Pain moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Pain throws a series of strikes that have Ellington backpedaling.
Pain fails in his attempt to clinch.

Pain has managed to clinch.
Pain scores with a hook to the body.
Ellington trying to stall but Pain improves his position.
Ellington can't find room to land a body shot as Pain controls the action.
Ellington taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Ellington stops a takedown attempt from Pain.
Pain lands a body punch in the clinch.
A right handed body shot lands from Ellington.
Pain has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ellington is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Pain tries to pull guard but Ellington holds him up against the cage and eventually Pain drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dee Pain. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ellington wants to sweep here but Pain controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pain prevents Ellington from improving his position.

Pain is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ellington really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ellington regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Pain.
Pain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pain lands a couple of digs.
Ellington working a defensive guard but Pain passes into half guard.
Pain wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ellington keeps working.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ellington can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pain is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ellington is looking for a sweep. Pain is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice defenses there by Pain.
Ellington connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pain attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Pain needs to keep his hands up - Ellington had a free shot at his head there.
Pain misses the jab.
Ellington thows a body shot but no joy.
Ellington throws a front kick that sends Pain stumbling back into the cage.
Pain moves out of range as Ellington strikes.
Pain jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ellington misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pain throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ellington.
Pain shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ellington as he jumps to the side.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ellington connects with a body shot.
Pain is breathing heavily.
Pain fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Duke Ellington will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pain tries to close the distance and clinch but Ellington swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ellington fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pain manages to avoid it.
Ellington throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Pain counters by moving into the clinch.
Ellington is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Pain's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pain misses with a hook. Ellington ducked under it nicely.
Pain misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pain shoots in for a takedown but Ellington shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dee Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pain uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ellington.

Pain takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Ellington tries to stall but Pain uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Pain has hold of one of Ellington's legs. Ellington is fighting the takedown attempt but Pain gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Pain drops back looking for a leg! Ellington is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ellington manages to kick Pain off! Pain jumps back into Ellington's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pain fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ellington sprawls well initially but Pain persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
