PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zuffa Bellator (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Styles has chosen I Am by Dale Oliver as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that AJ Styles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zuffa Bellator!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, AJ Styles!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Styles rushes Bellator and presses him up against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Styles.
Styles connects with a nasty looking knee right to Bellator's face.
Styles goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Styles keeps control of Bellator as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Bellator misses with a body punch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Bellator.
Styles lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Bellator or not.
A nice left hand lands by Styles.
A short uppercut from Styles.
Bellator misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Styles works on Bellator's body with a couple of short punches.
Bellator struggles to land a body shot inside as Styles controls his hands.
Styles lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Styles with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Styles scores with a hook to the body.
Bellator is breathing heavily.
Bellator blocks an elbow strike.

Styles lands an uppercut.
Styles has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bellator avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

It looks like Zuffa Bellator has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Styles gets control of Bellator's arms and successfully pulls guard. Styles will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Styles is on top in guard.

Styles thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bellator can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Styles controls the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bellator can't keep his opponent in guard - Styles advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Styles is looking for a kimura here.

Styles tries to pass to full mount but Bellator defends it.

Styles seems to be looking for submissions.

Styles wants to free his trapped foot but Bellator is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Bellator knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Styles on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bellator has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Styles is working away from the top position though.
Styles wants to take a breather but Bellator is having none of it.
Styles uses his free foot to push down on Bellator's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bellator.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Styles working for a guillotine from mount but Bellator is in no mood to give up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Styles is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bellator can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Styles scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Bellator to see if he's OK.

Styles wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bellator, who protects the arm well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Styles is trying to get an arm triangle but Bellator is defending well.
Styles wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bellator keeps working.
Bellator is pushing Styles's head away, looking to escape. Styles manages to hold on to the position though.
Bellator on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bellator tries to get out of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Styles cracks Bellator with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Styles is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bellator is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Styles wants to control but Bellator is keeping him busy.
Styles throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Styles has hold of Bellator's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Bellator seems comfortable defending it but Styles has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Bellator is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Bellator is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Styles couldn't care less - he's delighted!
