PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miles DAvis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sal Zork (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DAvis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Miles DAvis - someday my prince will come. Zork is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Rise Against - Behind Closed Doors. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Sal Zork enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miles DAvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sal Zork!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zork connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Sal Zork seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zork looks to land a left hand but DAvis moved out of range nicely.
DAvis moves away from the strike by Zork.

DAvis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Zork was covering up waiting for the punch and DAvis finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Zork being controlled here, momentarily.
DAvis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zork swivels though and keeps the full guard.
DAvis preventing the sweep.

DAvis trying to control but Zork is working from the bottom.

Zork pushes DAvis off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

DAvis scores with a takedown into Zork's guard.
DAvis trying to control but Zork is working from the bottom.
DAvis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
DAvis trying to control the position from guard on top but Zork is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
DAvis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
DAvis slips nicely into half guard.
Zork is not content to let DAvis control the position.
Zork trying to control but DAvis postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
DAvis stalling away here and it's allowed Zork to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
DAvis sitting in guard, not really doing much.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Miles DAvis just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
DAvis misses with a kick to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DAvis throws a looping overhand right but Zork ducks down to avoid it.
Sal Zork is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
DAvis uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Zork.
DAvis takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Zork missing with a left hand there. DAvis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
DAvis shoots for a takedown but Zork saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
DAvis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miles DAvis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Zork throws the left hand but DAvis avoids the punch easily.

DAvis ducks under a wild hook from Zork.
Zork throws an uppercut from half a mile away. DAvis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Zork throws a lazy right hand but DAvis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Zork stuffs the takedown.
Zork scores with a nice head shot.
Zork misses the jab.
DAvis moves out of range of the strikes.

DAvis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Zork is looking for a sweep.
Zork gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Zork is looking to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

DAvis is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Zork is surviving well by controlling DAvis's body position as best he can.

DAvis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zork to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zork shrugs it off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

DAvis goes for an armbar but Zork turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Zork.
Zork trying to control but DAvis is working from the bottom.
Zork looking to sit in guard and control but DAvis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zork keeping moving, preventing DAvis from controlling successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as DAvis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
DAvis controlling from the top position.
DAvis trying to control but Zork is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
DAvis works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Zork tries to get to full guard but DAvis has control of the leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
DAvis is trying to control the action in half guard but Zork is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miles DAvis dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


DAvis fails with a takedown attempt.
Zork misses with a jab, cross combination.
DAvis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
DAvis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miles DAvis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DAvis throws a chopping leg kick but Zork manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
DAvis slips a jab from Zork.
Zork misses with a hook.
DAvis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
DAvis misses with a wild combination.
Zork lands with a cross.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zork lands the left hand.

DAvis gets a takedown into half guard.
Zork is not content to let DAvis control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
DAvis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Zork is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

DAvis wants to work for an arm triangle but Zork is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
DAvis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Zork manages to get to full guard.
Zork wants to stand up but DAvis is controlling him.
DAvis passes Zork's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
DAvis is thwarting Zork's attempts to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
DAvis is trying to control. Zork wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
DAvis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

DAvis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zork did well to prevent DAvis getting side control.
DAvis throwing shots but Zork is blocking nicely.
DAvis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Zork is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of DAvis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take DAvis's back!
DAvis trying to control but not successfully.
Sal Zork has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Miles DAvis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
DAvis covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sal Zork.
I think DAvis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
