The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merit shoots in and bounces Vartanov off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Vartanov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Merit gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Merit wants to control from the top but Vartanov keeps moving.
Merit scoring with some ground and pound.
Merit wants to stand but Vartanov is controlling his posture from full guard.
Vartanov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Vartanov pushes a forearm under Merit's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Merit is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
