PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tupac Shaker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hitoshi Matsumoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matsumoto has chosen Otep - Blood Pigs as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tupac Shaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hitoshi Matsumoto!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A good leg kick by Matsumoto.

Matsumoto closes the distance and clinches.
Matsumoto blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Matsumoto misses with a body punch.

Matsumoto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shaker throws a nice inside leg kick.
Matsumoto shoots for a double leg takedown but Shaker sprawls well. He's pushed Matsumoto's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shaker fails with a takedown attempt.
Shaker lands with a thumping leg kick.
Matsumoto circles away from the clinch attempt

and Matsumoto counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Shaker is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Matsumoto is keeping busy.

Shaker is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Matsumoto gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Shaker tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Matsumoto avoids it.

Shaker pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes.

Shaker connects with a nasty looking knee right to Matsumoto's face.

Matsumoto works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Shaker wants to get back to his feet but Matsumoto is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matsumoto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Matsumoto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shaker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Shaker wants to control the position but Matsumoto says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Shaker on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Shaker pushes Matsumoto off but Matsumoto dives into side control.
Matsumoto lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Shaker down.
Sloppy strikes there by Matsumoto.
Shaker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Matsumoto on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Matsumoto passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Shaker!
Matsumoto fails to take his opponent's back.
Matsumoto sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Poor strikes thrown by Matsumoto there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Hitoshi Matsumoto dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shaker tries to clinch but Matsumoto moves out of range.
Hitoshi Matsumoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matsumoto shoots in for a double leg but Shaker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Shaker throws a series of punches but Matsumoto avoids them all with ease.

Shaker clinches with his opponent.
Shaker with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Shaker keeps control of Matsumoto as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Shaker decides to pull guard.
Shaker has momentary wrist control but Matsumoto slips an elbow through the middle.
Shaker keeping moving, preventing Matsumoto from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shaker is looking to stand up but Matsumoto isn't so interested in that idea.

Matsumoto trying to control the position from guard on top but Shaker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Matsumoto advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Matsumoto wants to stand up but Shaker is controlling the position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Matsumoto sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shaker defending well though.
Matsumoto is trying to control the action in half guard but Shaker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Shaker is controlling Matsumoto's trapped leg to prevent Matsumoto from advancing to side control.
Shaker looks like he's trying to stand up.
Shaker avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Matsumoto.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matsumoto looks to clinch
and Shaker counters with a left and a right that stings Matsumoto.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Matsumoto misses with a takedown
and Shaker counters with a series of strikes. Matsumoto will be more careful next time no doubt.
Matsumoto swats away the attempt to clinch by Shaker.

and Shaker makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Matsumoto dodges an elbow strike from Shaker.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Matsumoto gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Shaker counters with a three punch combo that has Matsumoto backing up. Matsumoto nods at Shaker to acknowledge the strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matsumoto gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Shaker regains guard.

Shaker on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Shaker tries to get out of the position.

Matsumoto has gone for a leg lock! Shaker slips out almost immediately though and dives into Matsumoto's guard.
Matsumoto is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Shaker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matsumoto is working away from the top position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Matsumoto connects with a nice short shot to Shaker's temple.

Matsumoto wants to stand but Shaker has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Matsumoto works his way into side control.

Matsumoto stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Matsumoto falls off balance throwing a combination

and Shaker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Shaker.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shaker decides to pull guard.
Matsumoto pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shaker is keeping the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hitoshi Matsumoto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Matsumoto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
