The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from ardonia misses.

Shanks decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Shanks perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
ardonia is breathing heavily.

Shanks seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Shanks decides to return to a standing position.
mirko raymore ardonia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shanks dodges the punch combination from ardonia.
Shanks pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Shanks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shanks is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt ardonia will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Shanks looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Shanks stands up and beckons ardonia to his feet.
ardonia throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

ardonia gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Shanks controls from within his opponent's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shanks's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Shanks is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Shanks stands and throws ardonia's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Shanks looks up at the clock and then as ardonia takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shanks smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Shanks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, ardonia has escaped the position, nice work there.

Let's hope that Shanks has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shanks stands up.
Shanks throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Shanks shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Well, if Shanks is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
ardonia on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

ardonia is trying to maintain the position but Shanks is very close to passing his half guard.
ardonia pushes Shanks off but Shanks dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shanks connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused ardonia some visible discomfort.

Shanks stands up.

Shanks shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. ardonia manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shanks gets to his feet - ardonia follows without any prompting.
Shanks walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

ardonia throws a nice looking combination but Shanks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Shanks closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Shanks putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has ardonia in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Shanks manages to break the clinch.

Shanks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Shanks with shots to the head and body - ardonia looks very uncomfortable down there.

ardonia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shanks on the ground.

ardonia wants to hold on but Shanks pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee warns ardonia that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
