Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Magnus Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Magnus Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mario Ribeiro!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Machida is pressed up against the cage. Ribeiro has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Machida down to the mat. Machida avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Ribeiro is working for a kimura here but Machida manages to reverse the position and he's now in Ribeiro's guard.

Machida drops back looking for a leg! Ribeiro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ribeiro manages to kick Machida off! Machida jumps back into Ribeiro's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ribeiro postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Machida is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ribeiro, into his guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ribeiro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Machida doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Machida manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ribeiro isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Machida stacks Ribeiro on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Machida!

Machida cracks Ribeiro with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


It looks like Mario Ribeiro has been cut.
Ribeiro keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Machida jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ribeiro manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Machida looks up at the clock and then as Ribeiro takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Machida smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ribeiro is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Machida wants to clinch but Ribeiro slips to the side

and Ribeiro counters with a single leg into guard. Machida didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machida wants to sweep but no luck.

Ribeiro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machida swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ribeiro swings around for an armbar but Machida sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ribeiro's guard.

Ribeiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Machida gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Machida in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Machida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ribeiro is trying to keep Machida in close.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Magnus Machida will probably get the nod.

Machida throws out a loose jab but Ribeiro uses good head movement to avoid it.

Ribeiro wants to lay and pray for a moment but Machida keeps working.

Machida is not content to let Ribeiro control the position.

Ribeiro is taking a breather. Machida says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ribeiro moves in looking to clinch but Machida pushes him off.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Machida is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Ribeiro ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ribeiro no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Machida looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ribeiro with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

I think Machida has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
