Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Naoto Date (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Pungspark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pungspark has chosen Wu-Tang Clan - Protect Your Neck as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Naoto Date!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Pungspark!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pungspark throws a head kick but Date moves out of range.
Pungspark misses with a series of wild punches.

Date shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Date showed some decent athleticism there.
Pungspark is looking to control Date's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pungspark avoid being mounted?
Date perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Pungspark is looking to improve his position.
Pungspark is trying to maintain the position but Date is very close to passing his half guard.

Date is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Date seems to be looking for submissions.

Date is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pungspark is just riding it out for now. Date eventually gives up the hold.
Date wants to pass the guard but Pungspark is defending well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pungspark looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Date circles away from the clinch attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pungspark throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Pungspark lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
No joy there for Pungspark, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pungspark shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Date counters with a shoot takedown. Pungspark fights it but they end up in guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Pungspark bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Date's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pungspark postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Date is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pungspark, into his guard.

Date trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Pungspark escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Date gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pungspark is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Date drops back, looking for a kneebar! Pungspark looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Pungspark looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Pungspark!
Date is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pungspark trying to control the action but Date is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Date is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pungspark's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Date is not content to let Pungspark control the position.
Date is trying to get back to full guard.
Date is working hard here to advance position.
Date on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Date tries to get out of the position.

Pungspark is working for a submission of some sort.
Pungspark tries to pass to full mount but Date defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pungspark pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pungspark misses with a takedown

and Date counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Date is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Date wants to work for an arm triangle but Pungspark is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pungspark is refusing to be controlled, as Date sits in half guard.

Date is taking a breather. Pungspark says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Date is pressing down on Pungspark's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pungspark is holding on for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pungspark manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Date seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Pungspark controls Date momentarily but Date frees himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pungspark throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pungspark misses with the combination.
Paul Pungspark is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pungspark lands with a straight right. Date didn't see that one coming.
Pungspark throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Date scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Pungspark fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Date is out of range.
Pungspark swinging wildly here.
Date avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pungspark misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Pungspark throws a series of strikes that have Date backpedaling.
Pungspark throws a head kick but Date moves out of range.
Pungspark throws a right hand that Date ducks under and follows up with a left that Date also avoids with ease.
Date shoots for a takedown but Pungspark saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pungspark fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pungspark scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Pungspark lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Date circles away quickly and effectively.

Date shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Pungspark makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pungspark.
Pungspark manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Date is wriggling around trying to escape.
Naoto Date overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Date manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Date is not content to let Pungspark control the position.
Date is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pungspark is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Date doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pungspark.
Date has a hand on Pungspark's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pungspark takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Date tries to reverse the position but Pungspark maintains control.
Naoto Date is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Pungspark is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Date has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Date tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Pungspark moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Date has worked his arm free - good work by Date!
Date has one of Pungspark's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

Pungspark tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Pungspark comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Date has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
