PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny English (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew WK (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think English might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rocket Skates by Deftones. WK has chosen I Want Your Face- Andrew WK as his entrance music. Andrew WK is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny English!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew WK!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
English takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
English throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
English throws a head kick but WK moves out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by English!
English bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
WK slips a jab and a cross from English.
English goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
A big left from English misses.
WK checks the leg kick.
WK throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
WK throws a combination. English tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
English falls off balance throwing a combination
and WK counters with a one-two to the body.
English throws a left and a right that both miss
and English takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
English throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and WK counters with a takedown into side control.

WK tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no WK has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
English is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

WK working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
WK is trying to ground and pound but English uses the momentary lack of control by WK to regain half guard.
English has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. WK is working away from the top position though.
WK missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

WK is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and English defends it well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
WK wants to control but English is keeping him busy.
English is looking to improve his position.
WK is looking to take a break and control but English is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

WK is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
English throws a left and a right that both miss
and WK counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
English misses with a few strikes there.

and WK counters with a stiff right hand.
English misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
English throws a head kick that misses.

WK closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming English to the mat! English manages to get full guard.
WK pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. English is keeping the position for now.
WK is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

WK drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and WK jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
WK looks gassed!
English has his hands on WK's head, controlling the position.
English is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
WK pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. English is keeping the position for now.

WK looking to sit in guard and control but English gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

WK escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. English gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

WK is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. English is aware though and is defending well.

WK had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. English defends it easily.
English sitting in guard here, content to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
WK controls English momentarily but English frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew WK dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


WK avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
English falls off balance throwing a combination
letting WK counter with a right hand.
English throws a leg kick that misses.
English stuns WK with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
WK feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to English's calf.
English misses with a jab to the body

and WK counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for English!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
English tries to lock up and control but WK gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

WK is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, English has managed to escape the submission attempt.

WK jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… English is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by English and WK has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
WK is breathing heavily.
English sneaks back into half guard.

English is looking to control WK's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can English avoid being mounted?
English is pressing down on WK's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

English throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

English had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. WK defends it easily.
English is adopting a defensive guard.

English has his foot on WK's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. WK works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
English keeping moving, preventing WK from controlling successfully.
English trying to keep a closed guard but WK is proving a slippery customer.
WK passes English's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

WK is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. English doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time WK.

English is trying to maintain the position but WK is very close to passing his half guard.

WK is trying to control the action in half guard but English is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
English wants to improve his position but WK is controlling well.
English keeping control of the position.
WK takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
WK trying to control the action but English is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
WK avoids a punch combination nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
WK uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from English.
WK lands with a good body shot.
English misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from WK.
English slaps away a takedown attempt from WK, before circling back to the center of the mat.
English fails to land with a series of punches.

English swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
WK throws a body kick that misses.

and WK counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
English takes a body punch but keeps moving.
WK misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from English.

Andrew WK showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

WK shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. English is trying to defend but WK finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

WK takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

English working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. WK doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. WK manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
English lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by English.
English looks to land a combination but WK avoids it well.
WK throws the left hand but English avoids the punch easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

English throws a looping overhand right but WK ducks down to avoid it.

Andrew WK is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
An inside leg kick from WK misses.
English throws a shot from downtown. WK moves away and avoids it.
Johnny English has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
WK throws a low kick but it's checked well by English.

I would just about give that final round to Andrew WK.
I've got WK winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
