PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nic Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva has chosen BLUNT- The Iron Maiden as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nic Bravo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Silva!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva scores with a punch to the head.
Silva throws a nice looking combination but Bravo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Matt Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bravo moves away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Silva is trying to break the clinch but Bravo is controlling him.

Silva is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Bravo is keeping busy.
Bravo lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Silva blocks the elbow strike.

Bravo has Silva pressed against the cage.
Silva misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Silva is pressed up against the cage. Bravo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Silva down to the mat. Silva avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Bravo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Silva misses with a looping right.
Bravo takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Silva lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Silva takes a swing at Bravo's ribcage but misses.

Bravo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bravo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Silva stops Bravo from passing to mount.
Silva is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bravo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Bravo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Silva has managed to free his arm - good work.
Bravo is breathing heavily.
Silva is pressing down on Bravo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Silva tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bravo is working hard here to advance position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silva can do anything to dispel that myth.
Silva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bravo is in a horrible position here. Silva smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Silva breaks from Bravo's wrist control and lands an elbow.


It looks like Nic Bravo has been cut.
Silva lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Bravo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Bravo counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Bravo is nestled in close to Silva, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Bravo tries to pass to full mount but Silva defends it.
Silva is holding on to half guard well.
Bravo wants to free his trapped foot but Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bravo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bravo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bravo has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bravo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Bravo's legs - danger averted.

Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

I would just about give that final round to Matt Silva.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
