PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rellik X (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Qura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). X comes into the arena with I Gotta Feeling blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rellik X!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Qura!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Qura throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Qura throws a combination but it was largely blocked by X.
Qura tries to clinch there but X circles away.
Qura is trying hard to land a takedown here. X sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

X shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Qura's guard.

Qura had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. X defends it easily.
X pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Qura is keeping the position for now.
Qura has a closed guard, preventing X from standing up.
X pushes down on Qura's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Qura gets back to full guard.
X stands and throws Qura's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Qura tries to improve position but can't.

X is trying to get an arm triangle but Qura is defending well.
Qura tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but X wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Qura prevents X from improving position.
Qura is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
X moves nicely into side control.
Qura prevents X from moving into mount.
Qura tries to bench press X off him but X keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Qura throws X to one side and escapes!

X wants to take a breather but Qura is having none of it.

X wants to stand but Qura has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and X counters with a nice double leg into side control. Qura won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

X is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Qura knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Qura sneaks back into half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
X passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Qura!

X is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Qura's half guard.
X wants to pass to mount but Qura is defending the position.
Qura works his way to full guard. Good work.
X forces his way into half guard.
X wants to pass to mount but Qura is defending the position.
Qura is looking for a sweep. X is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Qura manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
X won't allow Qura to sweep him here.

Qura looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Qura defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from X.
Qura is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

X is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Qura can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

X goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Qura turns into him and now he's in X's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

X is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Qura pulls his head out easily.
Qura wants to stand up but X manages to regain full guard.
Qura wants to control from the top but X keeps moving.

Qura stands up from X's guard - Qura perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rellik X will probably get the nod.
That's time! X's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Qura fails to land with a series of punches.

Qura feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

X pushes down on Qura's leg and manages to get into half guard.
X has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

X looking for a guillotine from mount but Qura is having none of it.
X prevents Qura from getting the reversal.
X looking to control but Qura is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Qura working to try and regain half guard.

X jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Qura is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Qura and X has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Qura sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

X is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

X looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
X trying to pass the guard but Qura defending well.
Qura is pressing down on X's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

X is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Qura is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Qura manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Qura is working for a kimura but X is defending it quite comfortably.

Qura is looking for a kimura but X is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Qura to get the leverage.
Qura is trying to control. X wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Qura is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rellik X overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
X regains full guard. Nicely done.

Peter Qura comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well X has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
