PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maurice Orangatang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maurice Orangatang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robert Williams!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Orangatang closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Orangatang not doing much here.
Williams gets back to full guard.
Orangatang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Orangatang is stalling in the full guard.
Orangatang with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Orangatang stays in close to Williams's body and controls the position.
Orangatang has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Williams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Orangatang on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Orangatang tries to get out of the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Orangatang seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Williams for as long as he can get away with.

Orangatang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Orangatang not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Orangatang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Orangatang controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Orangatang won't allow Williams to get back to his feet.
Maurice Orangatang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Orangatang has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Maurice Orangatang just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Orangatang clobbers Williams with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Orangatang throws a nice looking combination but Williams bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Williams slips a jab and a cross from Orangatang.

Williams gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Orangatang to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Orangatang lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Orangatang is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Orangatang perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Orangatang is pressing down on Williams's thigh, looking to free his foot. Williams is holding on for now.
Orangatang works his foot free and advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Orangatang cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Orangatang landing strikes from the mount and Williams is in trouble!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Williams walks straight into a right hand from Orangatang - that's dropped him! Orangatang jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Williams from any more punishment! Williams complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Maurice Orangatang!
