PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alez Calypse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Calypse might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Prodigy - Spitfire. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alez Calypse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Donnie Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calypse drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Calypse changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stevens tries to avoid it but Calypse manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stevens to the ground. Stevens escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Calypse moves in looking to clinch but Stevens pushes him off.
Calypse takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Stevens chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Stevens is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Calypse is looking to clinch.
Stevens fails in his attempt to clinch.

Stevens rushes Calypse and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Stevens misses with the head strike.
Stevens lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Stevens scores with a shoulder strike.
Calypse tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alez Calypse. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Calypse drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Stevens gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Stevens stalling the fight.
Calypse is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Stevens makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Stevens lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Calypse fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Calypse jumps guard but Stevens stands there with Calypse around his waist. Calypse gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Calypse has a couple of punches blocked by Stevens.

Calypse has hold of one of Stevens's legs. Stevens is fighting the takedown attempt but Calypse gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stevens manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Calypse is looking to get to half guard.
Calypse is working hard here to advance position.
Calypse is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Stevens can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Calypse is looking to escape.
Stevens content just to control the position here.
Stevens's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Stevens trying to control but Calypse is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Calypse is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Stevens tries to control but Calypse wriggling away.
Calypse tries to hold on but Stevens postures up.
Stevens takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Stevens wants to control the pace but Calypse is squirming around nicely.

Despite being in the dominant position, Donnie Stevens just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Stevens ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Good leg kick by Stevens there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Stevens throws a jab when Calypse was well out of range.
Calypse keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Stevens.

Stevens drives through and clinches with Calypse against the cage.
Calypse jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stevens walks away with a smile on his face. Calypse gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Stevens tries to close the distance and clinch but Calypse swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stevens is looking to clinch but Calypse is avoiding it.

Stevens gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Calypse tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stevens smiles and moves away.
Stevens stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Stevens swings for the body but Calypse moves out of range.

and Stevens counters with a stiff right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stevens fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Stevens tries to work over Calypse's front leg with a kick but Calypse checks it.
Stevens cracks Calypse with a good jab.

Calypse is rocked!
Calypse fails with the takedown
and Stevens counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Oh Calypse is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Calypse is breathing heavily.

Stevens cracks Calypse on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Calypse falls backwards against the cage. Stevens follows up with more strikes that drop Calypse to his knees. Stevens keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Calypse! This one is all over!
