PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomislav Pintaric (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daniel Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tomislav Pintaric!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pintaric looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Diaz!
Diaz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Pintaric raining down shots from the mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pintaric tries to control but Diaz wriggling away.
Pintaric in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Pintaric jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Diaz is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Diaz and Pintaric has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pintaric stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Pintaric fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pintaric swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz.

Pintaric throws a head kick that misses.
Pintaric clinches but Diaz breaks the clinch

and Diaz counters by moving into the clinch.
Pintaric content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Pintaric breaks from the clinch.
Pintaric doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Diaz counters with a big head kick but Pintaric shrugs it off.

Diaz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pintaric was covering up waiting for the punch and Diaz finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pintaric manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diaz manages to get himself to full guard.
Pintaric chips away with some ground and pound.
Diaz seems keen to control Pintaric's posture.
Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pintaric wants to get up but he can't break Diaz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Pintaric slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Pintaric has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pintaric with a lazy takedown attempt

and Diaz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Pintaric.
Pintaric has Diaz pressed against the cage, preventing Diaz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Pintaric jumps guard and drags Diaz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Pintaric is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.
Diaz is breathing heavily.

Pintaric pushes Diaz off and scrambles back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pintaric.
Daniel Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tomislav Pintaric.
Diaz fails with the takedown.
Diaz misses with a wild combination.

Diaz misses with a two punch combination.
A head kick by Pintaric misses

and Diaz counters with a single leg into guard. Pintaric didn't expect that.

Pintaric working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Diaz has passed into half guard!
Pintaric moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Pintaric preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pintaric scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pintaric shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Diaz is trying to defend but Pintaric finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tomislav Pintaric will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Pintaric clinches up against the cage.

Pintaric has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Diaz is trying to keep an underhook but Pintaric manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Pintaric decides to stand and escape the position.
Pintaric takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Pintaric fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Diaz sprawls well initially but Pintaric persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Diaz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pintaric with a nice head shot there.

Diaz has his feet on Pintaric's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pintaric's waist but Pintaric gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.

Diaz moves out of range of the body kick.
Pintaric tries to clinch up

and Diaz moves into the clinch.
Pintaric drops down looking for an ankle pick but Diaz pulls his leg out and moves away.

Pintaric closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Diaz to the mat! Diaz manages to get full guard.

Pintaric is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pintaric postures up.
Tomislav Pintaric has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pintaric throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Diaz works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pintaric lands a couple of elbows.
Pintaric tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.
Diaz working a defensive guard but Pintaric passes into half guard.

Pintaric decides to stand and escape the position.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pintaric paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pintaric drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pintaric wants to stand but Diaz has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pintaric throws and elbow that misses. Diaz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pintaric's guard. Nice move by Diaz!

Pintaric is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Pintaric wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment.

Pintaric is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Diaz is controlling him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Diaz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Diaz wanted to stand there but Pintaric had control of the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pintaric throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pintaric tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pintaric shoots in but Diaz avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Diaz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomislav Pintaric showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Diaz feints and as Pintaric raises his hands in defense, Diaz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pintaric is on top in guard.
Diaz is pulling down on Pintaric's head. It's preventing any offense from Pintaric, at least for the moment.
Pintaric distracts Diaz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Pintaric tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.
Pintaric trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pintaric stands and steps away. Diaz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Pintaric displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz.
Pintaric wants to clinch but Diaz slips to the side

so Diaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pintaric is trying to keep Diaz in close.
Pintaric is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz is trying to maintain the position but Pintaric is very close to passing his half guard.

Pintaric is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Pintaric stops Diaz from getting back to his feet.

Diaz avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pintaric.
Pintaric wants to free his trapped foot but Diaz is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Pintaric is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Diaz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pintaric.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pintaric shoots for a double leg takedown but Diaz sprawls well. He's pushed Pintaric's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pintaric gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Pintaric looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pintaric connects with a nice short shot to Diaz's temple.
Pintaric is trying to control the action in half guard but Diaz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pintaric is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Pintaric eventually gives up the hold.
Diaz is staying active underneath Pintaric, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Pintaric is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Daniel Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tomislav Pintaric is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pintaric pulls his head out easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Diaz.
I think Pintaric has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
