PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Astro Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Quixote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quixote comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pantera - Domination kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Astro Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Don Quixote!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Quixote sprawls well. Quixote wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Boy gets slowly back to his feet.

Quixote shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Quixote looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Quixote thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boy's head.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Boy wants to get back to his feet.
Quixote is looking to advance position but Boy won't allow it.
Quixote works his way into side control.

Quixote swings around for an armbar but Boy sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Quixote's guard.

Quixote manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boy manages to get himself to full guard.
Boy keeping moving, preventing Quixote from controlling successfully.

Boy has a closed guard, preventing Quixote from standing up.
Quixote stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Boy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quixote trying to control the position from guard on top but Boy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Boy pushes Quixote off and scrambles back to his feet.

Boy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Quixote is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Quixote is trying to get back to half guard.
Quixote wants to control but Boy postures up.
Quixote manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Boy is staying active underneath Quixote, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Quixote is looking for a kimura but Boy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Quixote to get the leverage.

Boy makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Boy fails with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Quixote throws a series of punches but Boy moves out of range.
Boy dodges the punch combination from Quixote.

Quixote wants to clinch up but Boy keeps it at a distance.

Boy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boy showed some decent athleticism there.
Boy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Quixote with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Boy lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Boy lands with a punch from half guard.
Quixote keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Quixote tries to get to full guard but Boy has control of the leg.
Boy not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Boy lands strikes from half guard.
Boy is trying to control the action in half guard but Quixote is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Quixote wants to improve his position but Boy is controlling well.
Boy tries to stand and escape but Quixote is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Astro Boy dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Quixote has gone for a leg lock! Boy slips out almost immediately though and dives into Quixote's guard.

Quixote is trying to keep Boy in close.
Boy stops Quixote from standing up.
Boy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Boy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Boy stands up over Quixote, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Boy connects with a couple of short punches.
Quixote avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Quixote is breathing heavily.
Boy missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Quixote closes the distance and clinches up with Boy, looking for a takedown. Quixote pushes Boy against the ropes but Boy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Boy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Quixote shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Boy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Quixote postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Boy is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Quixote, into his guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Boy lands a couple of elbows.

Boy gets to his feet - Quixote follows without any prompting.

Boy feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Astro Boy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Boy wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Quixote.
Boy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Boy tries to get out of the position.

Quixote swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Boy is now in Quixote's guard. A big mistake from Quixote there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Quixote is on top in guard.
Quixote prevents Boy from getting back to his feet.
Quixote wants to control from the top but Boy keeps moving.
Quixote wants to stand and escape but instead Boy has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Boy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Boy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Quixote's head.
Boy trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Quixote controls Boy momentarily but Boy frees himself.
Quixote looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boy is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boy misses with a takedown

and Quixote counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Quixote.

Quixote drops back looking for a leg! Boy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Boy manages to kick Quixote off! Quixote jumps back into Boy's guard.
Quixote is pushing down on Boy's leg trying to pass to half guard. Boy is fighting to maintain full guard but Quixote has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quixote passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Boy!
Quixote throwing strikes but Boy bucks up and reverses the position. He's now in guard on top.
Boy can't keep his opponent in guard - Quixote advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Quixote is looking to advance position but Boy won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Don Quixote.
I think Quixote has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
