PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Racken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Napier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Napier has chosen Pulse of the Maggots- Slipknot as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jamie Racken could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jack Napier's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jamie Racken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Napier!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Napier finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Napier fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Racken checks it well.
Napier pivots, looking for a leg kick but Racken is out of range and Napier settles back down.
Napier looks for a takedown but Racken sprawls well.

Racken shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Napier napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Napier tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Napier is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Racken's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Racken is trying to control the action in half guard but Napier is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Racken prevents Napier from improving his position.
Racken missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Racken throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Napier looking for submissions off his back.
Napier regains full guard. Nicely done.

Racken wants to control from the top but Napier keeps moving.

Napier looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Racken has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Napier is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Racken thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Racken is breathing heavily.

Napier is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Napier keeping moving, preventing Racken from controlling successfully.

Racken not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Racken postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Racken is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Napier trying to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Napier misses with a two punch combination.
Racken shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A frustrated look appears on Napier's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Napier should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Napier manages to pull guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Napier dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Napier misses with a series of wild punches.
Racken closes the distance and clinches up with Napier, looking for a takedown. Racken pushes Napier against the cage but Napier circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Racken tries to clinch but Napier moves out of range.

Racken takes the fight into the clinch.
Racken jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Napier walks away with a smile on his face. Racken gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Napier misses with a wild combination.

Napier scores with a takedown into Racken's guard.
Napier landing some decent shots from guard.
Napier wants to control from the top but Racken keeps moving.

Napier drops back, looking for a kneebar! Racken looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Racken looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Racken!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Racken tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Racken wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Napier, who protects the arm well.
Napier regains half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Napier regains full guard. Nicely done.
Racken trying to control the position from guard on top but Napier is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Napier looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Napier seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Napier has his foot on Racken's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Racken works his way back into a safe position though.
Napier trying to keep a closed guard but Racken is proving a slippery customer.

Napier has an active guard here but Racken has managed to pass into half guard.
Napier is trying to control but can't.
Racken stalling.
Napier works his way to full guard. Good work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Racken would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Napier is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Racken rolls with it to try and escape but Napier cranks on the arm and Racken is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
