PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Halfdead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eli Halfdead!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halfdead pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Halfdead misses with an uppercut. Lesnar saw that one coming.
Lesnar takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Lesnar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Lesnar pulls Halfdead into guard.
Halfdead postures up.
Halfdead slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Halfdead is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Lesnar will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lesnar parries the strikes from Halfdead easily there. Halfdead is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lesnar to escape.

Lesnar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Halfdead is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Lesnar is looking for a sweep. Halfdead is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lesnar trying to hold on to Halfdead's head to control him but Halfdead postures up.
Halfdead wants to take a breather but Lesnar is having none of it.
Halfdead looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lesnar with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lesnar wants to control but Halfdead is keeping busy.

Halfdead is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Halfdead is stalling here. Lesnar is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Halfdead seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Lesnar has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lesnar tries to move into full mount but can't pass Halfdead's legs.

Lesnar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Halfdead, who protects the arm well.
Halfdead is not content to let Lesnar control the position.
Halfdead is pushing Lesnar's head away, looking to escape. Lesnar manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Halfdead wants to control but Lesnar postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lesnar shoots in for a takedown but Halfdead shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Halfdead fails with a takedown attempt.
Halfdead lands a nice shot to the body.

Lesnar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Lesnar wants a takedown.
Lesnar keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Halfdead's efforts to push away.
Halfdead wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Lesnar has him pressed against the cage.
Lesnar is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lesnar is breathing heavily.

Halfdead escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Halfdead shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lesnar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Halfdead decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Halfdead counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Halfdead.
Halfdead is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Halfdead wants to break the clinch but can't.
Halfdead gets underhooks to prevent Lesnar's takedown attempt.
Lesnar keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Halfdead's efforts to push away.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Halfdead misses with a takedown

and Lesnar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Halfdead!
Lesnar landing strikes from the mount and Halfdead is in trouble!
Lesnar trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Halfdead regains half guard.
Halfdead is staying active underneath Lesnar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lesnar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Halfdead looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lesnar is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Halfdead is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lesnar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lesnar trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Halfdead manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Lesnar can't keep his opponent in guard - Halfdead advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Halfdead prevents Lesnar from standing back up.

Lesnar is looking for a sweep. Halfdead is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Halfdead wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lesnar keeps working.
Halfdead throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lesnar is not content to let Halfdead control the position.
Lesnar works his way to full guard. Good work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Halfdead stays in close to Lesnar's body and controls the position.
Lesnar keeping moving, preventing Halfdead from controlling successfully.
Lesnar wants to hit a switch here but Halfdead passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Lesnar there!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Lesnar will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Halfdead is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lesnar looks to land a strike but Halfdead avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Lesnar trying to control but Halfdead is working from the bottom.
Jose Lesnar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lesnar is stalling in the full guard.

Lesnar has gone for a leg lock! Halfdead slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lesnar's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Halfdead stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Lesnar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Halfdead moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lesnar is looking to clinch but Halfdead is avoiding it.
Jose Lesnar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lesnar shoots in looking for a takedown. Halfdead tries to sprawl out of it but Lesnar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Halfdead manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Halfdead has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Halfdead holds on and takes a little breather.
Lesnar tries to free his leg and advance position but Halfdead is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No luck for Halfdead with that takedown attempt.

Halfdead prevents Lesnar from escaping the position.
Lesnar seems a little lost for a moment, as Halfdead dominates the positioning.
Halfdead wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lesnar keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Lesnar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Halfdead decides to stand back up. Halfdead steps back and let's Lesnar get back to his feet.
Halfdead fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lesnar avoids it really well and circles away.
Jose Lesnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eli Halfdead.
Lesnar swats away the attempt to clinch by Halfdead.

and Halfdead decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lesnar's guard.

Lesnar has an active guard here but Halfdead has managed to pass into half guard.
Halfdead winds up and cracks Lesnar with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Eli Halfdead comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Halfdead has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
