PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thien Dinh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Gabriel Dillon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gabriel Dillon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Dillon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thien Dinh!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dinh closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dillon to the mat! Dillon manages to get full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dillon is on top in guard.
Dinh has a closed guard, preventing Dillon from standing up.
Dinh is looking to stand up but Dillon isn't so interested in that idea.
Dillon looking to sit in guard and control but Dinh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dinh content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dinh would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dinh is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Dinh avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dinh wants to control from the top but Dillon keeps moving.
Dinh working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Dinh wants to pass the guard but Dillon is keeping the position.
Dinh slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dinh decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dillon throws a body punch but Dinh moves out of range.
Dinh tries to clinch but Dillon moves out of range.
Dinh goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Dinh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dillon as he avoids it easily.
Dinh fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dillon thows a body shot but no joy.
Dillon fails to land with a series of punches.
Dinh fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Dinh decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dinh is thwarting Dillon's attempts to control the position.

Dinh looks gassed!

Dillon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dillon manages to get to full guard.
Dinh postures up.
Dinh wants to control from the top but Dillon keeps moving.

Dillon is working an open guard so Dinh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Dillon connects with a single shot there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Left hook, right uppercut from Dillon.
Dinh shoots for a double leg takedown but Dillon sprawls well. He's pushed Dinh's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gabriel Dillon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thien Dinh.
Dillon thows a body shot but no joy.

Dinh tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dillon swivels and escapes.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Dillon will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dillon fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Dinh on the side of the head.
Dinh looks for a takedown but Dillon sprawls well.
Dinh drops his hands momentarily and Dillon takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Dinh takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Dillon scores with a body shot.
Dinh takes one to the side of the head.
Dillon tries to bum rush Dinh with a series of wild strikes but Dinh uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dinh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dillon.
Dillon connects with a right hand. Dinh shakes it off.
Dillon stuffs the takedown attempt from Dinh. Dinh gets slowly back to his feet.
Dinh looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dinh walks into a left hand.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Dillon, as that shot connected.

Dinh looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gabriel Dillon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thien Dinh.
Dinh takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Dillon throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Thien Dinh has been cut.
Dillon uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dinh has time to react.
Dillon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Dinh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dillon as he avoids it easily.

Thien Dinh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A cross from Dillon lands.

Dillon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Dinh tries to clinch up but Dillon circles away and keeps his distance.
Dillon misses the shot to the body.
Dinh slips under a jab from Dillon.
Gabriel Dillon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dillon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dillon wants it to stay on the feet.
Dillon lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Dinh closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dinh thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Dinh stands up.
Dinh takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Dinh shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Dinh decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Dillon looks to score with a jab to the body but Dinh is just out of range.
Horrible takedown by Dinh or perhaps it was just good defense by Dillon which made him look bad.

Dinh shoots in looking for a takedown. Dillon tries to sprawl out of it but Dinh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dillon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A combination from Dillon does no damage.
Dinh clobbers Dillon with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Dillon works over Dinh's head and body with a nice combination.
No luck for Dinh with that takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dinh changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dillon tries to avoid it but Dinh manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dillon to the ground. Dillon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Dillon as Dinh shoots in.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Dillon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Dinh shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dillon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dillon wants to sweep but no luck.
Thien Dinh has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dillon wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Dinh is now in half guard.
Thien Dinh has got the better of the ground game so far.

Dinh is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dillon defends it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Thien Dinh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dillon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
