Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cherry shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cherry showed some decent athleticism there.

Cherry controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cherry should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Mir escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cherry gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cherry is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Cherry is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Mir is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mir is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mir is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cherry's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cherry's back!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Mir's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

You can see the frustration on Cherry's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Cherry is having to fend off submission attempts from Mir, who is looking to sink in the choke. Mir doesn't have the hooks in though and Cherry manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mir is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Cherry slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Frank Mir dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cherry shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mir pinned against the cage. Mir gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mir tries to clinch up but Cherry circles away and keeps his distance.
Horrible takedown by Cherry or perhaps it was just good defense by Mir which made him look bad.
Frank Mir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Cherry.

and Cherry counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mir won't be happy with that.

Cherry thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cherry has eaten all the pies!

Cherry wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy.

Cherry is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Cherry is trying to control the action in half guard but Mir is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mir tries to clinch but Cherry moves away

and Cherry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Mir is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mir lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cherry!
Brock Cherry has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cherry is breathing heavily.
Cherry tries to reverse the position but Mir maintains control.

Mir has control of Cherry's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cherry regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Mir goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Cherry is on top in guard.

Mir manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Mir wants to take Cherry's back here but Cherry is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Mir jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cherry is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cherry and Mir has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mir is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cherry is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Cherry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mir wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Mir is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cherry is just riding it out for now. Mir eventually gives up the hold.

Mir seems to be looking for submissions.
Cherry makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Cherry.
Mir stands and throws Cherry's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Mir is working to tighten is grip on Cherry's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cherry has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mir is really squeezing tight and eventually Cherry passes out! Mir breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
