PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Seaver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seaver has chosen Overkill - The Goal Is Your Soal as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. John Seaver is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Seaver!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Seaver.
Seaver swats away the attempt to clinch by Chan.
Seaver misses with a few strikes there.
Chan staying out of range there.
John Seaver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Seaver looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Chan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Chan tries to get out of the position.
Seaver wants to take a breather but Chan is having none of it.
Chan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Seaver.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Seaver seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Chan is refusing to be controlled, as Seaver sits in half guard.
Seaver with the ground and pound but Chan uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Seaver trying to control the position from guard on top but Chan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Seaver is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Chan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Seaver is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Chan unloads a knee to the mid-section. Seaver lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Chan obliges.
Chan lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Seaver has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Chan gets underhooks to prevent Seaver's takedown attempt.

Seaver looks gassed!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chan takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Chan moves in looking to clinch but Seaver pushes him off.
Seaver throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chan sees it coming and avoids it easily.
No joy there for Seaver, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Seaver closes the distance and clinches up with Chan, looking for a takedown. Seaver pushes Chan against the cage but Chan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chan doesn't manage to clinch there - Seaver circles away.
Seaver fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chan avoids it really well and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan tries to clinch up but Seaver circles away and keeps his distance.
Seaver throws a series of punches but Chan avoids them all with ease.
Seaver throws a right and a left that Chan avoids nicely.
Seaver shoots for a double leg takedown but Chan sprawls well. He's pushed Seaver's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Seaver shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chan as he jumps to the side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Seaver shoots for a double leg takedown but Chan sprawls well. He's pushed Seaver's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Seaver misses with a two punch combination.
Chan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Seaver thuds his right hand into Chan's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael Chan will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Chan stops a takedown attempt from Seaver.
Seaver jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chan walks away with a smile on his face. Seaver gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Seaver will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Seaver throws a right and a left that both miss.
Seaver swats away the attempt to clinch by Chan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice takedown defense from Chan. No joy for Seaver on that attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Seaver fails with the takedown.

No joy there for Seaver, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Seaver will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
