The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hamm closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Penn is trying to maintain the position but Hamm is very close to passing his half guard.
Hamm working over Penn with some ground and pound. Penn looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Penn is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hamm scores with a couple of nice shots.

Hamm drops back looking for a leg! Penn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penn manages to kick Hamm off! Hamm jumps back into Penn's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hamm accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hamm keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Penn's head.

Hamm is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hamm is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Penn throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Penn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hamm can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hamm looks up at the clock and then as Penn takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hamm smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Penn takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Hamm is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Penn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hamm looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Penn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
