PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between KJ Hoodwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoodwell comes to the cage accompanied by Pinball. On his way into the cage it seems that KJ Hoodwell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily KJ Hoodwell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, KJ Hoodwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, David Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoodwell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wilson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hoodwell.

Wilson leaves Hoodwell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Hoodwell or perhaps it was just good defense by Wilson which made him look bad.

Wilson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hoodwell manages to avoid it.
Hoodwell doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Wilson counter with a right hand.
Hoodwell wants to land a leg kick but Wilson is out of range.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Hoodwell. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Hoodwell is trying to get back to half guard.

Wilson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hoodwell down.
Hoodwell is looking for a sweep.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hoodwell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wilson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hoodwell tries for a takedown but Wilson circles away easily

and Wilson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hoodwell's guard.
Wilson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Hoodwell throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Wilson escapes and throws Hoodwell's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Wilson dominated that round.

Hoodwell doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Wilson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hoodwell's guard now.

Hoodwell isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wilson stacks Hoodwell on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wilson!
Wilson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Wilson. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Wilson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hoodwell gets his way!

David Wilson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wilson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
