Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Backstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Backstrom comes into the arena with Let the bodies hit the floor blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Joe Stevenson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, David Backstrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Stevenson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevenson lands with a straight right. Backstrom didn't see that one coming.
Stevenson bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Backstrom's head.
Backstrom tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stevenson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stevenson circles away from the clinch attempt.

Backstrom shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Stevenson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Stevenson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Stevenson tries to lock up and control but Backstrom gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Backstrom is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Stevenson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Stevenson!
Backstrom might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Stevenson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Stevenson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Stevenson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Backstrom kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Stevenson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Backstrom dives on top into guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stevenson is looking for a triangle here but Backstrom uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
You can see the frustration on Stevenson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Backstrom tries to score with some ground and pound. Stevenson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Despite being in the dominant position, Joe Stevenson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Backstrom uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Stevenson.
Backstrom tries to clinch but Stevenson is having none of it.

and Backstrom counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Joe Stevenson has been cut.
Backstrom is looking to clinch but Stevenson is avoiding it.

Backstrom uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Stevenson.

Stevenson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Backstrom stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Backstrom tries to close the distance and clinch but Stevenson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Backstrom shoots for a double leg takedown but Stevenson sprawls well. He's pushed Backstrom's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stevenson throws a right hand that Backstrom ducks under and follows up with a left that Backstrom also avoids with ease.
Stevenson tries to land a leg kick but Backstrom saw it coming and moves away.

Stevenson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Backstrom's guard.
Stevenson postures up in Backstrom's guard and throws a big left but Backstrom blocks it.
Backstrom manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stevenson manages to get himself to full guard.
Backstrom has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Stevenson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Backstrom defends well.

Backstrom is really struggling to control Stevenson but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That was a close round but I would say that David Backstrom will probably get the nod.

Stevenson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stevenson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Stevenson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Backstrom has escaped the position, nice work there.
Stevenson is breathing heavily.

Stevenson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Backstrom rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Stevenson's guard! Nice work there by Backstrom!

Stevenson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Backstrom defends it easily.

Backstrom drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stevenson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stevenson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stevenson!

Stevenson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Backstrom has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Stevenson but great work by Backstrom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Stevenson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stevenson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Backstrom stacks Stevenson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Backstrom!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Backstrom remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Stevenson is not content to let Backstrom control the position.
Stevenson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Backstrom has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Backstrom is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stevenson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
David Backstrom is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Joe Stevenson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stevenson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Backstrom circles away.
Stevenson leaves Backstrom with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Backstrom. That's going to take a lot out of him.

I would just about give that final round to Joe Stevenson.
I think Backstrom has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
