Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vince Santiero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tuomo Ruutu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuomo Ruutu will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santiero clinches with his opponent.

Ruutu manages to pull guard.
Santiero thows a big elbow that misses.
Santiero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Santiero tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruutu is retaining full guard.
Ruutu looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Santiero puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Santiero wants to free his trapped foot but Ruutu is holding on for dear life with his legs.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruutu throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Santiero counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ruutu's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruutu wants to stand but Santiero is controlling the position.
Santiero sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ruutu's guard.

Santiero is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Santiero is taking a breather. Ruutu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Ruutu is not content to let Santiero control the position.
Santiero is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ruutu!

Santiero has control of Ruutu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ruutu regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Santiero lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ruutu hang on?
