PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Coon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Sandoval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Coon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Sandoval!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Coon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

It looks like Justin Coon has been cut.

Sandoval has Coon pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sandoval pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Coon tumbling to the mat - Sandoval dives into Coon's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sandoval is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Coon counters with a nice low kick that buckles Sandoval's knee momentarily.

and Coon counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sandoval won't be happy with that.
Coon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sandoval keeps working.

Coon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Coon moves into the clinch.

Sandoval not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Coon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Coon closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sandoval to the mat! Sandoval manages to get full guard.

Sandoval manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Sandoval looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Coon is controlling an arm, preventing Sandoval from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Coon wants to hold on but Sandoval pushes him away.

Sandoval is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Coon has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Coon!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sandoval is looking for a sweep. Coon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sandoval escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Coon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well Coon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
