PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Lieu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Withers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lieu comes to the cage accompanied by "You Don't Know" by Eminem. Withers has chosen Snap your fingers snap your neck as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zane Lieu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Withers!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and William Peck.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Withers shoots in but no luck this time.
A swing and a miss from Withers.
Withers walks into a stiff left hand from Lieu.
Lieu moves out of range of the leg kick from Withers.
Good leg kick by Lieu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Withers is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Lieu.

It looks like Luke Withers has been cut.
Withers walks into a jab.
Lieu throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Withers.
Lieu ducks under a wild hook from Withers.
A jab from Lieu finds it's way through Withers's defenses.
Withers showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lieu.
Lieu cracks Withers with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lieu goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Withers changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lieu tries to avoid it but Withers manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lieu to the ground. Lieu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lieu is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Withers pivots, looking for a leg kick but Lieu is out of range and Withers settles back down.
Zane Lieu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Left hook, right uppercut from Lieu.

Withers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Withers looks gassed!
Lieu wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Lieu is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lieu struggling a bit here.
Sloppy strikes there by Withers.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lieu is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Withers off and has taken his back!
Withers just looking to survive in the bad position.
Withers's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Lieu not allowing Withers to control his hands.
Withers turns into Lieu and is now in his guard.
Withers trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lieu wants to sweep here but Withers controlling him for the moment.
Withers throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lieu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Withers is fighting to break Lieu's control of his arms but Lieu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Lieu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Withers tries to free his leg and advance position but Lieu is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lieu slaps away a takedown attempt from Withers, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Zane Lieu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Withers.
Lieu lands a nice shot that snaps Withers's head back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lieu tests Withers's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Lieu paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Lieu fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lieu misses with a two punch combination.
Withers misses with a body kick.
Withers defending well as Lieu loads up on a big left hand.
Withers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lieu swivels and escapes.
Withers moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Lieu punishes Withers's body with a nice straight punch.
A cross from Lieu lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Withers takes one on the button.
Withers shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lieu sprawls well. Lieu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Withers gets slowly back to his feet.
Lieu lands with a nice body punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lieu lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lieu connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Withers momentarily.
Withers shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Withers gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Withers tries to move into range but Lieu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Lieu lands a glancing blow to the side of Withers's head.
Lieu misses with a few strikes there.
Lieu scores with a jab to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Withers is rocked!
Lieu circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Withers to the canvas! Withers doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Lieu keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
