PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Groucho Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marx has chosen Lydia the Tattooed Lady by Groucho Marx as his entrance music. Groucho Marx will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Lima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Groucho Marx!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Lima.
You can see the frustration on Marx's face as Lima controls the position.
Lima tries to advance to mount but can't.
Lima content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Lima misses with the ground and pound.

Lima thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lima in side control, throwing shots but Marx defends.
Lima throws an elbow but Marx slips to the side and avoids it well.
Lima creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Marx sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Lima tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marx can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lima is looking to take a break and control but Marx is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Marx should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Marx is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Marx is not content to let Lima control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lima misses with a head kick.
Marx tries to clinch there but Lima circles away.

Lima shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lima missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Lima is breathing heavily.

Lima is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Lima is working for a submission of some sort.

Lima is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marx defends it well.
Lima trying to control from half guard but Marx is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Lima dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lima avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lima pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Lima closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lima lands in his opponent's guard.
Lima will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lima trying to control the position from guard on top but Marx is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lima is looking to work some ground and pound but Marx has wrist control.
Marx wants to stand but Lima is controlling the position.

Lima passes Marx's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lima thows a huge punch but Marx dodges it nicely.
Lima works his way into side control.

Lima working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lima throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Marx wants to get back to his feet.
Marx really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lima. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lima has hold of Marx's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Marx tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Lima cranks the arm and Marx screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Marx, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Carlos Lima!
