The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jannety connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Maximus's hands.
Marcus Maximus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jannety lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

It looks like Marcus Maximus has been cut.

Maximus shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Maximus cracks Jannety with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Maximus cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Maximus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maximus can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jannety stops Maximus from standing up.
Maximus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Marty Jannety has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcus Maximus.

Jannety lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jannety .

Maximus gets the takedown into side control.

Jannety wants to get back to his feet but Maximus drags him back down.

Jannety scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Maximus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jannety goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jannety goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Jannety fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maximus, pushing him back against the cage.

Jannety tries to bum rush Maximus with a series of wild strikes but Maximus uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Maximus closes the distance and clinches up with Jannety , looking for a takedown. Maximus pushes Jannety against the cage but Jannety circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Maximus shoots in but Jannety avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jannety throws a right hand that Maximus ducks under and follows up with a left that Maximus also avoids with ease.

Maximus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jannety 's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Marcus Maximus.
