PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gracie Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian McKinney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by I SUCK. Julian McKinney told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie misses with a low kick.
Gracie misses with a series of wild punches.

McKinney closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McKinney in particular looking to stall.
McKinney wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position.
McKinney is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
McKinney takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Gracie tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Gracie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McKinney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie wants to stand but McKinney has his arm trapped.

Gracie wants to control but McKinney is keeping him busy.
McKinney is looking to reverse the position.

Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McKinney, who protects the arm well.

Gracie wants to stand but McKinney has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A combination from Gracie does no damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie shoots and misses

and McKinney decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard.
Gracie controls McKinney momentarily but McKinney frees himself.
McKinney passes easily into side control. Nice work.

McKinney is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

McKinney swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McKinney's guard.

A close round but Julian McKinney will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gracie moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Gracie tries to clinch there but McKinney circles away.

and McKinney counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McKinney is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

McKinney throws and elbow that misses. Gracie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McKinney's guard. Nice move by Gracie!

Gracie passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Gracie stands up and beckons McKinney to his feet.
Gracie tries to bum rush McKinney with a series of wild strikes but McKinney uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

McKinney throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gracie was covering up waiting for the punch and McKinney finishes the takedown easily into guard.

McKinney sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard.

Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.
McKinney stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McKinney's corner is telling him to maintain position.
McKinney trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Gracie manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
McKinney is breathing heavily.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McKinney is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McKinney has escaped and now he's on top!

Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McKinney trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McKinney wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gracie throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

McKinney sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Gracie doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! McKinney paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Gracie - great work!
