PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurtiz Larper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ned Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelly is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Fistfull of Dollars. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurtiz Larper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ned Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Larper looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kelly tries to roll over but Larper keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Larper seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kelly does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Larper is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kelly looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Kelly looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Larper stands up from half guard.

Larper shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Larper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kelly shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Larper is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kelly is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Kurtiz Larper just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Kelly escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Larper gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

and Kelly counters with a shoot takedown. Larper fights it but they end up in guard.
Kelly passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Larper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kelly wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Larper wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Kelly tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kelly is breathing heavily.

Larper is trying to control Kelly's posture but Kelly avoids it.

Kelly tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kelly has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kelly swings around for an armbar but Larper sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kelly's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Larper wants to stand but Kelly has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Kelly is looking for a triangle but Larper pushes his legs off easily.
Larper passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Larper has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Larper drives through with a takedown into guard.
Larper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kelly is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Larper is aware though and is defending well.
Larper trying to control the position from guard on top but Kelly is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Larper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kelly, up you get!

and Kelly counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kelly.
Larper wants to get back to his feet but Kelly is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kelly stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Larper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kelly is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Larper is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Larper has escaped and now he's on top!
Kurtiz Larper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Larper stays in close to Kelly's body and controls the position.

Kelly is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Larper passes into half guard.
Larper seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Larper seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kelly for as long as he can get away with.
Larper is keen to just control but Kelly is a slippery customer.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
It looks like Larper is going to stand back up.

A close second round but Ned Kelly will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kelly displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Larper throws out the jab.

Larper decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kelly manages to get to full guard.

Kelly working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Larper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Kelly is tightening it up a little... Larper has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Larper reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Larper taps out! nice BJJ there by Kelly!
