Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Michaels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Michaels will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Smith throws a leg kick but Michaels sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Smith cracks Michaels with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Smith gets a clinch.
Smith is trying to break the clinch but Michaels has him pressed against the cage.
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Michaels keeps him there for the moment.

Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.
I looks like Smith might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Michaels is breathing heavily.

Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michaels swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Smith trying to control but Michaels is working from the bottom.
Smith looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith working some strikes from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith with a nice head shot there.
Smith preventing the sweep.
Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michaels swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith wants to control from the top but Michaels keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, James Smith just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith tries to clinch but Michaels moves out of range.
Michaels darts in trying to clinch

and Smith counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends Michaels down! Smith is looking to finish but Michaels is intelligently defending himself.

Smith stands up and waves to Michaels to follow him.

Michaels fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Michaels.
Smith takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Michaels dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Smith tries to clinch up but Michaels circles away and keeps his distance.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Smith!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Michaels uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Michaels in a clinch.

Michaels manages to break the clinch.
Smith avoids the head kick by Michaels.
Michaels swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith.
Michaels scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Smith is looking to clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Michaels bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith misses with an uppercut.
A head kick from Michaels lands but Smith takes it in his stride.
Michaels throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Michaels fails with an attempt to clinch.

Michaels drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Michaels tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Smith dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Michaels wants a takedown but no success here.

Smith breaks the clinch.
Michaels is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Smith.
Nice takedown defense from Michaels. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
A punch lands to the side of Michaels 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Shane Michaels is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A jab from Smith finds it's way through Michaels's defenses.

Michaels changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Smith is looking for a sweep.
Michaels advances nicely into full mount.
Smith holds on, trying desperately to control.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith wants to hold on but Michaels pushes him away.
Smith sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Michaels throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Smith is holding on to half guard well.

Smith is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Michaels pulls his head out easily.
Smith makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Smith.
Smith wants to stand up but Michaels is controlling him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Michaels passes Smith's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Michaels wants to advance to full mount but Smith doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Smith wants to stand up but Michaels is controlling him.
Smith is trying to keep Michaels in close.
Michaels stays in close to Smith's body and controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Michaels is controlling him.
Michaels wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith has Michaels pulled in close to control his posture.

Smith wriggles free and stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Smith moves into range and clinches up with Michaels.
Smith wants to break free but Michaels has control.

Michaels breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Michaels moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Michaels fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Michaels wants to clinch
and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Michaels backing up. Michaels nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes.
Michaels explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Smith throws a right and a left that Michaels avoids nicely.
Smith throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Michaels on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.


Michaels is rocked!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Smith lands with a big right hook that stumbles Michaels - he's out on his feet here! Smith follows up with another monster hook that separates Michaels from consciousness! Michaels falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Smith stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
