PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Deluna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deluna comes to the cage accompanied by King Without a Crown. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Dukes!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dukes stalks Deluna and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Deluna's face. Deluna staggers backwards, shaken.
Deluna is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dukes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Deluna tries to avoid it but Dukes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Deluna to the ground. Deluna escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Deluna is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dukes throws a wild body kick that Deluna sees coming a mile off.
Dukes fails to land the takedown.
Dukes shoots in looking for a takedown. Deluna tries to sprawl out of it but Dukes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Deluna manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chris Deluna has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Dukes.

Dukes tries to keep at a distance but Deluna has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dukes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Deluna is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Deluna throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dukes blocks it with crossed arms.

Deluna creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Dukes's defenses.

and Dukes counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Deluna thinking.

Dukes shoots in and bounces Deluna off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Deluna wants to stand up but Dukes is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dukes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Deluna on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Deluna tries to get out of the position.
Deluna keeping moving, preventing Dukes from controlling successfully.
Deluna wants to get back to his feet but Dukes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Dukes lands a couple of digs.

Dukes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dukes is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Deluna!

Dukes wants to finish this one by submission but Deluna is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dukes.

Deluna's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Dukes lands a big shot there that rocks Deluna but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Dukes lands a nice shot to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dukes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Deluna has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dukes lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Dukes with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Deluna takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Deluna tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dukes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Deluna looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Dukes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Deluna has hold of Dukes's hands but Dukes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Dukes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dukes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Deluna keeps working.
Dukes landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Deluna pushes Dukes off looking to stand but Dukes dives back in and keeps control.

Dukes is working for a kimura but Deluna is defending it quite comfortably.
Deluna looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dukes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Deluna wants to stand back up but Dukes manages to pass into side control.
Deluna is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dukes asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Dukes decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Deluna displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dukes.
Deluna tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dukes swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dukes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Dukes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Deluna does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Dukes in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Deluna tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dukes!
