PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jaari Kuukonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tarzan Isokana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tarzan Isokana will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jaari Kuukonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tarzan Isokana!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kuukonen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Isokana's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Kuukonen throws a big right hand that misses.
Kuukonen tries to free his leg and advance position but Isokana is retaining full guard.
Isokana trying to keep a closed guard but Kuukonen is proving a slippery customer.
Kuukonen stopping the sweep attempt from Isokana.
Kuukonen wants to pass the guard but Isokana is keeping the position.
Isokana can't keep his opponent in guard - Kuukonen advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Kuukonen moves nicely into side control.

Kuukonen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kuukonen tries to advance to mount but Isokana instead regains half guard.

Kuukonen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Isokana is just riding it out for now. Kuukonen eventually gives up the hold.

Isokana tries to roll over but Kuukonen keeps him under control.

Kuukonen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Isokana doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kuukonen.

Kuukonen is looking for a kimura but Isokana is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kuukonen to get the leverage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Isokana wants to improve his position but Kuukonen is controlling well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Kuukonen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kuukonen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Isokana gets caught flat footed, as Kuukonen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Kuukonen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Isokana swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kuukonen won't allow Isokana to get back to his feet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kuukonen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kuukonen wants to finish this one by submission but Isokana is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kuukonen.
Jaari Kuukonen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kuukonen jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Isokana is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Isokana and Kuukonen has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Isokana lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kuukonen at a distance.

Kuukonen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kuukonen lands in his opponent's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Isokana is on top in guard.

Kuukonen is looking for a triangle but Isokana pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kuukonen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Kuukonen goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Isokana turns into him and now he's in Kuukonen's guard.

Kuukonen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kuukonen wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Isokana is now in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kuukonen works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kuukonen wants to sweep here but Isokana controlling him for the moment.

Isokana works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Tarzan Isokana has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jaari Kuukonen.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kuukonen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
