Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and kev smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). smith has chosen summertime as his entrance music. Thiago Alves has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, kev smith!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
smith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Alves.
Alves rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Alves stuffs the takedown.
Alves throws a jab when smith was well out of range.
Alves connects with a body shot.
Alves throws a big shot that misses.
smith shoots in and bounces Alves off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
smith trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
Alves is looking to stand up but smith isn't so interested in that idea.
Alves scrambles and gets back to his feet.
smith slips a straight right by Alves.
Alves pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
smith scores with a takedown into Alves's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
smith stops Alves from standing up.
smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alves swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alves wants to stand up but smith is controlling him.
Alves has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes smith off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
smith misses with a takedown attempt - Alves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
smith gets a takedown into half guard.
smith looks gassed!
Alves is not content to let smith control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves looks like he's trying to stand up.
smith is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Alves is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
