Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Assis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Godsmack- Cryin' Like A Bitch. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Assis!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Assis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Assis trying to mount his opponent but Diaz defends it.
Diaz wants to improve his position but Assis is controlling well.
Assis passes to full mount!
Diaz is trying desperately to improve position.
Assis is trying to take his opponent's back.
Diaz tries to lock up and control but Assis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Assis jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Diaz is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Diaz and Assis has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Assis has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Diaz!
Assis prevents Diaz from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Assis looking to secure an arm triangle but Diaz defends it well.
Diaz bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Assis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Assis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Diaz wanted to stand there but Assis had control of the position.

Assis throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Assis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Assis's legs - danger averted.

Diaz decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Assis moves away.
Assis gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Diaz lands a nice shot that snaps Assis's head back.
Diaz looks to score with a jab to the body but Assis is just out of range.

Diaz takes a swing at Assis's ribcage but misses.
Diaz connects with a looping right hand.
Diaz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Assis was well out of range. Poor timing from Diaz.
No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Assis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Diaz is fending him off so far but Assis persists. Nope, Diaz circles away and we're back to standing.

Diaz throws a series of punches but Assis avoids them all with ease.
Assis shoots in for a takedown but Diaz shows good takedown defense.
Diaz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Diaz throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Assis stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Assis looks gassed!
Diaz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Diaz is looking to wear down Assis with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Horrible takedown by Assis or perhaps it was just good defense by Diaz which made him look bad.

A left and a right from Diaz both land. Nice combination.
Assis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Assis somewhat.

Assis is breathing heavily.
Diaz stalks Assis and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Assis's face. Assis staggers backwards, shaken.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Diaz is looking to stand up but Assis isn't so interested in that idea.

Assis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Diaz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Diaz has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Assis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Assis is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Diaz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Diaz shrugs it off.

Assis goes for an armbar but Diaz turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Diaz.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Assis is defended easily by Diaz.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
