Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Diego Mariachi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Through the Fire Flames- Dragonforce. George Johnson has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Mariachi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mariachi tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.
Mariachi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Johnson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mariachi is trying to stand back up but Johnson is controlling him
Johnson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mariachi keeps working.
Mariachi wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mariachi some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mariachi avoids it really well and circles away.

Johnson swings around for an armbar but Mariachi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Johnson's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Johnson holds on and takes a little breather.

Mariachi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mariachi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mariachi tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Johnson regains half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson wants to get back to full guard.
Johnson is pressing down on Mariachi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mariachi stops Johnson from standing up.
George Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.

George Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mariachi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Johnson cracks Mariachi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Mariachi is in all sorts of trouble here.
Johnson is landing with some decent strikes but Mariachi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Johnson controlling the position easily from mount.
Mariachi is bucking up trying to escape but Johnson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mariachi is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action.

Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mariachi was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

George Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
